Silmo 2020: A look back at a nomadic edition

Reading time : 3 minutes

Review-Silmo-2020

Health crisis requires, the Silmo 2020 was held in a very particular format. With will and agility, the organizers transformed the Parisian show to be able to reach professionals. By virtue of the known difficulties in organizing trips, the results are satisfactory , if we omit the cancellation of the last stage, in Lyon. The second wave of the Covid-19 epidemic has indeed prevented this holding. Return on the edition 'outside the walls', the Silmo in nomadic mode.

Silmo 2020: necessarily fewer people, but an enthusiasm still present

Of course, this year it's impossible to bring together as many exhibitors and visitors as in previous years. But we must salute the prowess of the organizers who made it possible, in strict respect of sanitary conditions, to maintain an edition in which few people believed.

In total, 75 exhibitors and nearly 2000 visitors met in Paris, Bordeaux and Rennes. Few or no internationals however. But could we do otherwise?

The main theme of the show? Project yourself into the future. Almost an irony in view of such a terrible year. However, it was precisely the occasion to keep up with the times, with the publication of trends. The latter, exhibited in the magazine Trends by Silmo , designed and distributed for the occasion, give pride of place to sustainable and ecological materials.

Ecology, precisely, is at the heart reflections of Silmo Next , which wants to deploy the future of the optical sector in the company of all its players. Entirely digitized, the event focused on these issues, and in particular through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

While we could be worried about the holding of the Silmo d'Or ceremony , it did take place, on the sly all the same. The innovative companies met the jury's expectations and the tie-up was sometimes difficult. There are some nice surprises and astonishing innovations.

The edition of Silmo 2020 was necessarily special. However, it can pride itself on having shown to all the players that the optical industry was a model of resilience, agility and adaptability.

Above all, this new way of approaching the meetings offered other possibilities, which will not be put aside for the next years. Because this edition will have marked the spirits. The organizers are in any case already turned towards the 2021 edition and towards all the actions to be carried out throughout the year to "keep in contact and support the players in the optical-eyewear industry.
